Ganpati Ganesh is worshipped at the start of all auspicious works. Ganesh is elephant headed god who is harbinger of success, prosperity and wisdom. Ganesh is fountainhead of innovation and dispeller of obstacles. When we meditate on Ganesh and his characteristics our consciousness gets an impression of his gunas (Gunas can be known as positive characteristics). Whenever we worship God in one or other form the basic idea is to receive benefits from that form of god. Worship of Ganesh removes all obstacles hence he is also called ‘Vighanharta' - vighan means obstacle harta means one who takes away. His gunas motivate our intellect in such a manner that the work is started in a smooth manner. Furthermore if any obstacle pops up that is also taken care of by our inspired mind and intellect. Well begun half done, it's the feeling behind meditating on Ganesh. By virtue of Ganesh meditation we should strive to develop comparative and analytical characteristics in ourselves.

‘Jai Shree Ganesh' - ‘Jai' means victory, ‘shree' is title used for respecting a person, similar to Mr. but has more deep meaning. Shree is name of Lakshmi- the Goddess of wealth. Actually the complete word is Shreemaan, maan means one who has. One who has wealth, prosperity and higher personal qualities is called Shrimaan. Ganesh means ‘Gan' means the superior high intellect member of divine society, ‘esh' means master, owner or swami.

We can learn many a things from characteristics of Ganesh. Ganesh has got big ears that are symbolic of listening to all. Sometimes we don't listen to our family members, friends, well wishing people around us or don't listen to the voice of our own conscious and it may result in dissatisfying feelings. So we should develop the patience to listen. Ganesh has small eyes which tell us to see all but not to see the negative aspects too much. Life is beautiful, try to find the good aspects. When we see something attentively and far our eyes contracts and become small, hence small eyes also inspire us to have farsightedness. Ganesh has a long truck which also works as nose. The trunk of all elephants is very powerful and sensitive. Power should always be accompanied with care for others. Ganesh has got outer and inner teeth. Outer teeth add to looks and used for lifting. Inner teeth are used for eating. Diversify yourself like teeth of Ganesh; take full benefit of different efficiencies. Ganesh has a big stomach which can digest all things. Learn to digest secrets, success and power, be deep. Ganesh has a big head, think big.

Mouse is considered as vehicle of Ganesh. Mouse is genetically near to human that's why most medical experiments are first carried out on mouse. Mouse is always active. It keeps doing one thing or the other. It also learns. Learn from mouse to be active, energetic and adaptable.

The most important characteristic of Ganesh is innovation. Ganesh is symbolic of wisdom. By meditating on Ganesh the power of conceptualization develops, which helps in thinking about new things, reviewing the existing things from different perspectives and making necessary changes. Innovation is basic to the development of businesses and equally important to the development of civilization and enhanced quality of life.
